Abstract :
A fabrication process for Mn-Zn ferrite single crystal magnetic heads using a solid-solid reaction has been developed. This process consists of bringing a single crystal ferrite block, which has a groove of 1 to 3 μm depth formed by chemical etching for a magnetic gap, into direct contact with a polycrystal ferrite block with a groove for winding a coil. The polycrystal is crystallized by heating the single crystal block to a temperature of 1300 to 1400°C, and at the same time forming a magnetic gap. In addition to this process, which uses a new track separation method, a new bulk type magnetic head for 3.5 inch floppy disk drives (FDDs) was fabricated as a trial, and good results (asymmetry was 85 nS and time margin was 1100 ns) were obtained.
