Abstract :
A complex source location theory for the propagation and diffraction of a general class of beam waves is presented. This theory is a certain extension of Deschamps´, suggested in 1971, to solve the problems of diffraction and scattering for the fundamental Gaussian beam mode incidence. It is shown that the theory is also involved in constituting a set of beam modes in free space. A few examples for Gaussian beam modes are given.
