Abstract :
Highly Bi-substituted yttrium iron garnet films grown epitaxially on SmGG substrates are investigated for compositions of (BiY)3Fe5O12, (BiY)3- (FeAl)5O12and (BiGdY)3(FeAl)5O12. A specific rotation of 7670 deg/cm and an optical absorption of 180 cm-1at 0.8 μm are obtained for a (BiGdY)3(FeAl)5O12film. These values give the figure of merit 10 deg/dB. Growth of thick films, saturation fields of the films and the optical reflection are investigated.
