Abstract :
We have used TPA in an InGaAsP waveguide for a high sensitivity autocorrelator suitable for measuring the pulse width of low power 1.55 μm wavelength optical pulses. The autocorrelation pulse widths are consistent with those expected from numerical autocorrelation of the actual pulse temporal profile. And the magnitude of the photocurrent is in good agreement with that expected from TPA. The sensitivity achieved by the autocorrelator of 0.08 (mW)2 is the best reported to our knowledge. The use of TPA in a semiconductor waveguide was found to be a practical and easily implementable alternative to the use of SHG for autocorrelation measurements
