Abstract :
A method of progressive picture transmission is described which uses dynamically varying interleaved blocks. The method is easy to implement and has the effect of reducing the masking effect of the block structure during the early stages of transmission. The extent of the interleaving is reduced as more coefficients are received. Subjective tests are reported which indicate an appropriate strategy for dynamic variation.
