Abstract :
Barium ferrite particulate media are of great interest because they provide mass producible perpendicular recording media utilizing existing coating facilities. The barium ferrite particles, synthesized by the glass crystallization method, have suitable properties for making the particulate perpendicular media. The media comprising these particles enable high density recording, even in a low coercivity range, in which a ferrite head is usable without saturation. The advantages of the media are not only their excellent mass producibility and high recording density but also include their good oxidation resistance, and the fact that they preserve existing head-medium interface. Experimental data show that they are applicable to various utilizations ranging from applications in audio and video recorders to flexible disk memories, as promising high density recording media.
