Abstract
This article presents an overview of some of the significant developments in rotating machine insulation systems that have occurred in the past century. This article describes the chronological development of insulation materials and systems, together with some of the key innovations in manufacturing. For the most part, it was the innovation in materials and manufacturing from wound stator groundwall insulation that paced the development of machine insulation systems.
