Abstract :
NAPLPS (North American Presentation Level Protocol Syntax), recommended by CCITT as a world VIDEOTEX standard, is already being utilized commercially. The NAPLPS system is distinguished by: 1. Its high degree of hardware independence. New decoders with new functions made possible by advances in hardware technology will still be able to decode old NAPLPS data. This is important for the building of data bases. 2. A geometrical code with a high level of abstraction, making it possible to compress transmitted data. Images are drawn using geometrical elements such as points, lines, rectangles, arcs, and polygons, so a large amount of detail can be represented by a small amount of data.
