Abstract :
In-service optical time-domain reflectometer measurements will simplify turn-on and fault location procedures for coarse wavelength-division-multiplexing optical network deployments. We describe adverse effects to these measurements due to discretely reflected and Rayleigh backscattered live traffic and discuss implications for multiplexer isolation specifications.
