Abstract :
The present and possible future trends in development of computer hardware and system software for computer-intensive applications of computer-aided analysis and design are analyzed. An overview of the emerging products in each class of computers is presented, the authors´ view of prospects of development of hardware and software products of interest to the CAD market is given, and hints for performance evaluation are provided. Finally, the present status of massively parallel computers is described, with emphasis on the architectures of interest for CAD applications
