Abstract :
An approximate method for calculating rain rate statistics from published U.S. Weather Bureau data is described and the results are applied to estimate signal attenuation. This technique can be applied for any of the 257 U.S. cities for which such data are available. A mathematical proof of the method is given and the accuracy limitations of the results are discussed.
