Abstract :
Experimental studies of the saturation magnetization 4πMs, the saturation magnetostriction λsand galvanomagnetic properties of Co-M (M: early transition metal) have been systematically carried out at room temperature. The composition dependence of 4πMs, of the anisotropic magnetoresistance Δ ρ/ρ0and of λsare seen to depend on the valence difference between Co and M. The dependence of 4πMson the composition reflects Friedel´s theory. λsand Δ ρ/ρ0depend on the number of electrons in the outer shell which varies with M. The quantum mechanical side jump mechanism is found to dominate the extraordinary Hall effect Rs.
