Abstract
A sandwich-ribbon optical-fibre waveguide is described, which is manufactured using arsenic trisulphide as the optical core material and a plastic¿polyethersulphone¿as the supporting substrate. Mode propagation in the composite structure is observed, and the use of the fibre to couple light into and out of high-refractive-index integrated optical devices is proposed.
