Abstract :
A technique has been developed for simultaneously dehydrating and consolidating preforms prepared by the v.a.d. method of optical-fibre fabrication. The residual OH content has been reduced to 0.03 p.p.m. By controlling the dehydration process, no depletion of GeO2 has been observed.
