Abstract :
The electromagnetic energy flow is studied to elucidate the phenomena underlying remote-field eddy-current nondestructive testing of magnetic tubes. The flow intensity as well as its direction is obtained quantitatively. The energy travels through the tube wall from the outside into the inside of the tube in the remote field area, carrying the information on the tube wall thickness. This makes it possible to use this method to detect defects in ferromagnetic tubes
