The "PHIG" is a novel head for the perpendicular recording with high resolution, efficiency and mass productivity. It is a hybrid of a probe head with a thin main pole layer Tm (<λmin) and a (single) Metal-In Gap ring head with a gap g(

λmin) in structure and character. In spite of the zero depth of the side core and zero recess of the return path core, extra dips from the gap were negligibly shallow in the density response, due to high Bs (9 ∼10 kG) and high µ(∼ 4000) Co
