Abstract
Aided by recent developments of component materials, as well as production techniques, glass fiber-reinforced plastics (GFRPs) are finding an increasing number of applications in the electrical and electronic sectors in Japan. In this paper, the focus is on practical applications of GFRPs in such electrical/electronic apparatus as heavy electric apparatus, superconducting/cryogenic apparatus, energy-producing apparatus, spacecraft, communication and broadcasting equipment, home electric appliances, medical apparatus, computers and office automation equipment. Also the characteristics of both thermosetting-type and thermoplastic-type GFRPs are covered, including mechanical, thermal and electrical properties.<>
