Abstract :
The transient wavelength shift of a 1.5 μm distributed-feedback laser diode (DFB-LD) modulated by a rectangular pulse is directly observed using a streak camera. As a result, chirp width increase with decreasing DC bias current is observed. When the DC bias current is set to less than the threshold current, the wavelength shifts briefly from the shorter wavelength to the equilibrium value during the optical pulse turn-on.
