Abstract :
This paper describes recent efforts to assess the risk of anthropogenic increases of UV-B radiation and changes of climate at the earth´s surface. The main intent of the paper is to provide the reader with a grasp of the basic methodology applied to both problems. The application of the methodology is illustrated by 1) recent changes in our understanding of the risk of increases in UV-B radiation from the use of chlorofluormethanes and operation of high-altitude aircraft and 2) the limited available results for changes of climate from the burning of fossil fuels.
