Abstract :
The open EMS (energy management system) architecture concept is described, and criteria for evaluating open EMSs are considered. Changes in the electric utility industry that affect control center design are discussed. How existing systems can be upgraded to an open architecture is detailed, and the factors important to open EMS designs are discussed
