Abstract :
In online contingency analysis, it has become quite common to screen contingencies by ranking them according to some severity (or performance) index, which is calculated solely as a measure of limit violations. The authors focus on the idea of correctability of contingencies with limit violations. Some experimental results are used to show that the present day screening by severity of violations may miss some contingencies that are serious because they are not correctable by the usual controls. A fast and efficient method for the correction of line loading limit violations based on sensitivity factors and contingency screening techniques using sparse vector handling its presented. The results show that the additional information about correctability of contingencies can be obtained at a low computational cost
