Abstract
A significant component of the overall system electrical energy requirements of many power utilities is now being provided by independent power production facilities in the form of nonutility generators (NUGs) and cogeneration facilities. The authors discuss the impacts of NUGs on the composite power system adequacy indices of two test systems. They illustrate the effects on the calculated adequacy indices of using different system load curtailment philosophies in composite system adequacy assessment. Results obtained using an analytical approach and using a Monte Carlo simulation program as the computational tools are illustrated and presented
