Abstract :
We review and discuss the theory of SIS direct detector saturation, and present experimental results which verify the theory, using N=2 and 4 SIS junctions in series. The measured responsivity is greater than the quantum limit e/Nhω. This is not understood, We derive an explicit formula for the saturation of the SIS mixer and compare this to the direct detector.
