Abstract
Quarter-wave-shifted distributed-feedback (QWS-DFB) semiconductor lasers with asymmetric structure are theoretically analysed in terms of wavelength selectivity, differential efficiency, linewidth and sensitivity to external optical feedback. The analysis is used to design narrow-linewidth lasers with low sensitivity to optical feedback for coherent transmission.
