Abstract :
The letter reports the fabrication and performance of a low-loss 8×8 star coupler from a network of four-port wavelength-flattened fused couplers. The coupler insertion loss has a much reduced wavelength dependence compared to stars made from standard fused couplers, and provides a useful operating window from 1.2 to 1.6 ¿m.
