Abstract :
In order to investigate spin glass properties of liquid-quenched Cu-Fe alloys, susceptibilities and Mössbauer spectra were measured. Spin glass transition temperature Tgand effective magnetic moment Peffwere obtained from susceptibility data for both as-quenched and annealed samples. The Mössbauer spectra at room temperature were decomposed into five components with different EQQ and IS. The parameters, IS, EQQ and the volume fraction of each cluster (isolated, dimer, trimer, multiple and γ-Fe) were obtained by the least mean square method. Utilizing the Mössbauer analysis at room temperature, the spectrum at 6K was also decomposed into five components. The center field of the hyperfine field distributions of each cluster was consistent with the magnetic moment obtained by the susceptibility measurement. It is concluded from the relationship between Tgand the total fraction of Fe atoms in dimers and trimers that dimers and trimers play an important role in the present spin glass. Using Peffand volume fraction of each cluster, the magnetic moments of the clusters were estimated.
