Abstract
A switched-mode power supply controlled by magnetic amplifier using a Co-base amorphous saturable-core has many advantages over other types of power supplies. The behavior of minor hysteresis loop including the magnetic saturation in the high frequency ranges must be studied quantitatively in order to optimize the design parameters of a magnetic amplifier regulator. The core loss of a newly developed Co-base amorphous saturable-core ACO-5SH and a conventional type Co-base amorphous saturable-core ACO-3SH were measured in the two types of measuring conditions. The loss of the core operating as a magnetic amplifier is always larger than that measured with symmetrical square wave voltage excitation, and the difference of those value depens on dB/dt.
