Abstract :
Magneto-optical properties of rare-earth ion implanted 3d-transition metal films were investigated. Faraday and Kerr rotations were measured as a function of dose. The magneto-optical measurements were made in static magnetic fields as well as in a pulse field of 43 kOe. It was found that Faraday or Kerr rotation of Tb+ ion implanted Fe films increased at doses less than about 3 × 1015ions/cm2. These rotation decreased with doses at higher value. The decrease corresponds with that in the magnetization which results from the formation of amorphous Tb-Fe alloy layer. This correspondence is similar to that found in Tb-Fe films prepared by conventional methods. However the increase of magneto-optical rotation observed at low doses is an interesting result due to the ion implantation.
