Abstract :
A LIPS tape of long grain rice shaped iron particles (length: 0.1 microns, aspect ratio: 5/1, Hc: 1.4 kOe) was prepared. The previous orienting field for LIPS was improved as follows intending enough orientation without surface roughening: 1) a perpendicular orienting field distribution consisting of a narrow and intense field and a following wide and weak field, 2) DC field (instead of 50 Hz AC). Its wavelength response measured with 8mm VCR Sendust head shows high output in addition to the LIPS´s high density and wide band characteristics.
