Abstract :
The newly discovered phenomenon of stress-dependent saturation magnetostriction, observed in low-magnetostrictive metallic glasses, is discussed. Its influence on the measurements of saturation magnetostriction is seen when the experiments are carried out by means of indirect methods based on the Villari effect. A procedure is proposed by which reliable results of measurements can be obtained.
