Abstract :
The authors introduce an adaptive configuration for time-delay estimation whereby conceptually two adaptive filters, one giving a time delay and another a time advance of equal amount, are adapted simultaneously to minimize the output mean square error. This configuration gives approximately a twofold increase in convergence speed compared with the conventional single adaptive filter when the same misadjustment is maintained but still requires only a single adaptive filter for its implementation. Analysis and proofs for convergence and speedup are given. The theoretical development is verified through simulation examples, which include an application to noise cancellation
