Abstract :
The authors show that, in the presence of a normalised frequency offset FT, the averaging filter length K of an Mth power nondecision-aided feedforward carrier synchroniser should be selected to minimise the cycle slip probability rather than the linearised phase error variance, because the former is much more sensitive to K. A simple approximate expression for the optimum value of K is presented in terms of M and FT, and confirmed by computer simulation
