Abstract :
The performance of the two most commonly used large-area gaseous detectors, resistive plate chambers (RPCs) and limited streamer tubes (LSTs), is examined and compared with the available information about quality assurance and quality control procedures that were used in the construction of these devices. Detectors used at LEP, HERA, and CESR are examined, as well as the more recent experience from the BaBar and BELLE b-factories detectors.
