  • Abstract
    Using a client-server based signaling protocol, the authors propose a new approach to connection establishment that allows for the easy handling of multiparty connections and improves end-to-end connection setup delay by parallelizing certain operations that occur during connection establishment. We refer to the current approach as the call processing/broadband ISDN user part (CP/B-ISUP) approach. To illustrate the procedure description for call/connection establishment, we assume a network topology of three switches and one signaling transfer point (STP). The STP provides datagram routing for signaling messages. Associated with each switch is a call processing application process
