Abstract
A novel design is proposed for a four-port optical tap that extracts efficiently from a fibre in which light containing several discrete wavelength bands is propagating only that light within one such band. The same device can be used simultaneously to combine light of the same wavelength as the extracted light with the other, unselected, wavelength bands.
