Abstract :
The weighted index (WI) method has been used to compute the propagation constants of buried and channel waveguide structures. The results are compared with the commonly used effective index method, the method of moments and an accurate finite difference technique. The WI method is shown to be the most accurate of the approximate methods and is especially useful close to cutoff.
