Abstract :
A novel technique for image denoising is presented. The proposed approach adopts multipass processing based on a simple piecewise linear filter whose behavior is locally adapted by means of an edge detection algorithm. A method for an automatic parameter tuning when the noise variance is unknown is also presented. Computer simulations and experiments with pictures acquired by digital cameras show that the proposed approach yields very satisfactory results for images corrupted by Gaussian noise
