Abstract :
The vector active element pattern of an array is expressed in terms of Floquet modal amplitudes. It is proven that the active element power pattern must be symmetrical inside the grating lobe free region even for asymmetrical elements. This interesting symmetry property of the active element pattern is illustrated through two practical elements: an electromagnetically coupled offset patch and an asymmetrical multistep horn.
