Abstract :
A new nondestructive method for measuring the Young modulus of singlemode optical fibres is presented. The Young modulus is obtained from measurement of the resonance frequencies of a coiled fibre. Experiments are performed with a setup previously used for detection of mechanical vibrations. The error in the measurement of the Young modulus is less than 5%.
