            Abstract : 
Discontinuous transmission (DTX) in cellular systems has been suggested as a means for capacity and quality enhancement. A method for DTX analysis is established. The DTX effect is analysed and quantified in terms of closed form expressions for outage probability for cochannel interference (C/I) in Nakagami fading channels. Because the DTX performance is voice pattern dependent, the expressions derived include both DTX attenuation coefficients as well as voice activity factors.
