Abstract :
A single self-thresholding method is proposed that eliminates rapid signal level fluctuations in photonic ATM switches. A 3 Gbit/s data stream with nanosecond-order level fluctuations can be discriminated. A bit error rate of 10-10 is obtained for switching cells of power -8.0 and -16.0 dBm.
