Abstract :
We demonstrate the unrepeatered and uncompensated wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) transmission of 16times10 Gb/s differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) channels over 140-km G.652 fiber using two commercial semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) as booster and preamplifier, respectively. The long uncompensated span was achieved thanks to the use of a frequency-periodic narrow optical filter that simultaneously demodulates all the WDM-DPSK channels and avoids chromatic dispersion compensation. The measured bit-error-rate (BER) curves show a maximum power penalty of 1.4 dB at BER=10-9 confirming that the high accumulated dispersion and the nonlinear effects in the SOAs do not significantly impair the transmission
