Abstract
The use of an artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) has proved very effective to simultaneously enhance gain and reduce the thickness of planar antennas. Owing to the strong resonant nature of such metamaterials, low profile antennas based on periodic AMC exhibit poor performances in terms of bandwidth. Demonstrated is the use of a non-intuitive and automatic CAD tool to synthesise a thin partially reflected surface based on AMC (PRS-AMC) operating in a wide frequency band. The process of optimisation is carried out using a micro genetic algorithm (mGA) coupled to a dasiahome madedasia 3D-TLM electromagnetic software implemented on a parallel computer.
