Abstract :
A data transmission rate of 200 Mbit/s through 100 m of plastic optical fibre with an InGaN/GaN LED operating at 509 nm is reported. Nitride LEDs operating at this wavelength showed lower transmission loss than red LEDs (650 nm). These LEDs have low temperature dependence, showing only a 26% drop in coupled power over the temperature range -40 to +70°C.
