Abstract :
This editorial introduces the special issue on mass customization manufacturing systems. It discusses the benefits and challenges which face mass customization manufacturing. It also examines the four critical areas which affect the performance of such systems: product design; product configuration; production processes; and supply chain operations. The editorial briefly summarizes the articles included in this special issue.
