Abstract
It is proposed that reduced-order controllers for single-input single-output plants may be synthesized by first calculating a controller for some, not necessarily accurate, reduced-order model of the plant, and then refining the controller so as to account for the full plant. The controller refinement is formulated in terms of a model-approximation problem within a feedback loop. Closed-loop stability is then guaranteed provided that the approximation error is below a certain bound
