Abstract
It is confirmed that the normalized output of a single-pole type (SPT) head increases as track width decreases. A reproduce sensitivity of 300 nVp-p/micron.turn.m/s was obtained by SPT head of less than 10 microns in width. In order to reduce magnetic flux leaking out from a main-pole and an auxiliary core of the head, two trials were performed. One involved the modification of the structure of an auxiliary core, and the other involved a helical-shaped thin-film micro-coil wound around a main-pole by photolithographic techniques. It was confirmed that not only is much higher normalized output achievable in an SPT head with track width less than 10 microns, but also the introduction of these two techniques improves the sensitivity of an SPT head by more than a factor of two
