Abstract
A 4×4 cordless digitizer without permanent magnets is reported. In this prototype a resolution of eight points per millimeter in the total detecting area of 120 mm×120 mm was possible. The cursor could be positioned 15 mm above the detecting area. Amorphous ribbon, Metglas 2605 S3A, annealed at 350°C for 20 minutes was found to be the optimum material. The inclination angle of a stylus pen was studied in order to optimize the output characteristics of the digitizer
