Abstract :
A perturbation formalism has been developed which treats an inhomogeneously loaded waveguide containing ferrites and dielectrics quantitatively. The treatment has been applied to single and double toroidal phase shifters and a tunable electrooptic modulator. The agreement between theory and experiment for the toroids is within a few percent over a broad bandwidth. The theory can treat the coupling to higher order modes and the analysis of the waveguide impedances
