Abstract
The unshielded horizontal dual-element magnetoresistive (MR) head is comprised of two parallel MR sensors in a plane parallel to the recording media. The authors describe the signals that can be obtained from an unshielded horizontal dual-element MR head. When suitably biased, the difference in response from two sensors represents a proper signal for reading longitudinally recorded media. The authors show analytically the dependencies of the signal in geometry and spacing. The principle advantages of this head are fabrication simplicity and signal amplitude
